After months of tireless campaigning, writing to MPs, briefing the media, and speaking up at the UK Covid Inquiry - our community may finally be seeing progress.

We have received confirmation that some Labour MPs want to review Covid-19 vaccine eligibility to restore fair, universal access for all Clinically Vulnerable people.

A Promising Shift

In her letter to one of our members, Dr Beccy Cooper MP wrote:

“Labour MPs have called for a rapid review of JCVI eligibility criteria and for the reinstatement of free Covid-19 vaccination for all Clinically Vulnerable people, in line with the existing approach to NHS flu vaccinations.”

She went on to confirm that the government’s principle is clear:

“Labour's recent commitments and statements have made clear that the principle of universal and fair access to vaccines particularly for those who are medically at-risk must be central to our national strategy.”

This is a signal that our voices are being heard - and that the injustice of excluding millions from protection is finally being taken seriously.

Dear

Thank you very much for contacting me about your concerns regarding access to Covid-19 vaccination for Clinically Vulnerable people. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your email.

I am pleased to be able to confirm that the new Labour government is committed to strengthening our public health response and reducing health inequalities. Labour's recent commitments and statements have made clear that the principle of universal and fair access to vaccines particularly for those who are medically at-risk must be central to our national strategy.

In Parliament, Labour MPs have called for a rapid review of JCVI eligibility criteria and for the reinstatement of free Covid-19 vaccination for all Clinically Vulnerable people, in line with the existing approach to NHS flu vaccinations. Many have highlighted, as you do, that the logic and evidence for including all at-risk groups in annual booster rollouts are overwhelming, given the ongoing pandemic context and emergence of new variants.

Our party's manifesto commits to taking advice from clinicians and scientists and to working closely with NHS England to ensure that support for the most vulnerable is not withdrawn on cost grounds especially when this may lead to greater suffering and increased NHS pressure. There is widespread concern across Parliament about the risk of deepening health inequality and placing the cost burden of essential preventative care onto those least able to shoulder it.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your concerns so powerfully.

Best wishes,

Dr Beccy Cooper MP

How We Got Here

This progress has happened because of you.

CVF have:

  • Written hundreds of letters to MPs and peers

  • Partnered with scientists and clinicians to raise the alarm in an open letter to the JCVI and UK Government

  • Spoken out to the media and provided vital evidence to the UK Covid Inquiry

  • Launched a petition that was gaining momentum

We have reminded policymakers that prevention saves lives - and that cutting access to vaccines isn’t a saving at all. It’s a false economy that increases NHS pressure and deepens inequality.

Why This Matters Now

New Covid variants are continuing to emerge. Scientists, including Professor Stephen Griffin and other experts who supported our campaign, have warned that the virus is still evolving and that updated vaccines are essential to prevent severe illness and long Covid.

At the same time, many at-risk people - including pregnant people, those with respiratory, cardiac, and autoimmune conditions - have faced the stark choice between paying privately (around £100 per dose) or going without protection altogether.

This policy reversal could change that.If Labour follows through, it would mean free NHS Covid vaccination for all Clinically Vulnerable people, just as with the flu jab - a decision grounded in evidence, fairness, and compassion.

How can you help?

We know how quickly progress can stall once headlines fade. So our work isn’t over.CVF will continue to

  • Write to your MP to support this change using our new template letter.

  • Share this post - help spread the word before it’s too late for this winter rollout!

  • Please Donate - every pound helps us campaign, support and inform CV families

This is a moment for hope - but we do need the follow through.

Thank You!

To every member who wrote, spoke up, or shared their story: this step forward belongs to you. And a special thank you to the CVF member and constituent in West Worthing, whose letter helped prompt this response!!!

Your voices are really making a difference!

But you must keep going until fair vaccine access is restored for everyone who needs it.
