Building a Safer Future for All

Supporting, informing and advocating for Clinically Vulnerable households across the UK since 2020.

Clinical vulnerability affects us all

Around 1 in 3

people in the UK, at least 20 million, were prioritised for Covid vaccination because their age or health put them at higher risk, and that was before counting children.*

All of us

are Clinically Vulnerable at some point in our lives: as babies, and later through age, illness, pregnancy or medical treatment.

What is clinical vulnerability?

Who we are

Our mission

To support, inform and advocate for those in Clinically Vulnerable households as they navigate the ongoing health risks that infectious illness poses to their health, education and everyday lives.

Clinically Vulnerable Families supports people across the UK who are Clinically Vulnerable, formerly classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, or immunocompromised – and everyone who lives alongside them. We advocate for the everyday protections, from clean air to accessible voting, that let Clinically Vulnerable people live full and equal lives.

Help us: understand the impact of school attendance expectations

We are gathering experiences from all parents and carers about how 100% school attendance expectations affect children’s wellbeing, health and school experience. The survey takes about 5 minutes and responses are anonymous.

Evidence & reports

Built from our community’s evidence

All of our reports are built from evidence we’ve gathered directly from the Clinically Vulnerable community, including surveys, audits and lived experience. We share it with decision-makers, regulators and Parliament.

93%

of Clinically Vulnerable households struggled to access healthcare safely during the height of the pandemic.

A third

of voters in our 2026 audit returned to in-person voting after the guidance changes our evidence helped bring about.

80%

of children in Clinically Vulnerable families were persistently absent from school in 2021–22, meaning they missed 10% or more of their school sessions.

Please support CVF

Clinically Vulnerable Families has worked without funding, for years, to give a voice to families too often forgotten. To continue our work, we do need your help. Every donation makes a difference. Please consider giving today so that together we can secure lasting protections for our families.

* Around 1 in 3: older care home residents (0.3 million), people aged 65 and over (11.7 million), clinically extremely vulnerable people under 70 (1.2 million) and people aged 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions (7.3 million) were prioritised for Covid vaccination: 20.5 million people in total. Children under 16 were not included, so the true number is higher. Sources: BBC News, from the UK COVID-19 vaccines delivery plan (January 2021).
