As we approach the upcoming local elections, we want to bring your attention to an important issue that could affect your ability to vote safely.
We have recently been working to highlight this issue in news reports that Clinically Vulnerable people who wear masks to protect themselves from Covid will have to remove them at polling stations, potentially putting them at risk. The Electoral Commission has said people will only need to remove them "momentarily" for ID checks by polling station staff, but we believe that this is not enough to ensure the safety of Clinically Vulnerable and elderly voters.
To address this issue, we have created a template letter that you can customise and send to your local MP, urging them to take action to protect the rights of all voters, including those who are Clinically Vulnerable. The letter highlights the need for:
outdoor ID checks
staff wearing masks and Covid tested
and ventilation inside polling stations
to ensure safe voting for all.
We encourage you to use this letter as a resource to advocate for your right to vote safely, and to share it with anyone else who may be in a similar situation. We believe that by working together, we can make our voices heard and ensure that all voters are able to exercise their right to vote in a safe and accessible environment.
